First Impressions…

It was a long, long flight, but it was bearable. I have gotten a grand total of 3ish hours of sleep in the past 26 hours.
When we finally arrived in Lyon, a bus picked us up to take us to Yessingeaux. The drive was beautiful (well, at least the parts I was awake for.) The verdant hills are awash in sunlight, deepening and reflecting every nook and cranny of these very rolling hills. There are large trees everywhere, and from outside my open bedroom window I can almost touch the tightly clustered pines. There are real shutters that open up and let the glorious sunshine in. Opening antique shutters from the 4th floor of a stone building feels quite provincial.  It is warm today, with just the slightest breeze. It really couldn’t be more lovely.

On our brief drive through town it proved to be startlingly vertical, and full of narrow streets lined with stone-walled shops. Pink flowers tumble from window boxes, and pastry shops greet you around every corner. I can’t wait to explore more.
